INSTITUTIONAL INITIATIVES FOR ELECTORAL LITERACY:
- Whether Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) has been set up in the college?
Yes, the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) has been set up in the college in April 2024, just before the Parliamentary Elections. College received an instructions from the Commissioner of ULHASNAGAR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION to set up Electoral Literacy Club to increase the percentage of voting in the city. The college envisages that ELC will be a vibrant hub for awareness & participating among future voters. The newly enrolled students are made aware to register through various activities like Essay Writing on Campaign, Letters to Voters Campaign etc.in collaboration with the Election Office of Municipal Corporation.
- Whether students’ co-ordinator and co-ordinating faculty members are appointed by the College and whether the ELCs are functional? Whether the ELCs are representative in character?
Yes. The faculty coordinator and student coordinator are appointed by the college. Asst. Prof. Dhanashree Naik is the faculty coordinator and Mst.Prasad Palve from S.Y.B.A is the Students’ co-ordinator. The ELC club is functional and helps students & community to sensitize towards the “Right to Vote”.
- What innovative programmes and initiatives undertaken by the ELCs? These may include voluntary contribution by the students in electoral processes-participation in voter registration of students and communities where they come from, assisting district election administration in conduct of poll, voter awareness campaigns, promotion of ethical voting, enhancing participation of the under privileged sections of society especially transgender, commercial sex workers, disabled persons, senior citizens, etc.
Various voluntary contribution programs are organized by the college in electoral processes participation in voter registration of students and communities where they come from, assisting district election administration in the conduct of polls, voter awareness campaigns, promotion of ethical voting, and enhancing the participation of the underprivileged sections of society.
- Any socially relevant projects/initiatives taken by College in electoral related issues especially research projects, surveys, awareness drives, creating content, publications highlighting their contribution to advancing democratic values and participation in electoral processes, etc.
The college conducted electoral-related awareness activities like Taking Oath, Writing Letters to Parents to Vote, Essay Writing Competitions etc. to motivate the people to actively participate in electoral process.
- Extent of students above 18 years who are yet to be enrolled as voters in the electoral roll and efforts by ELCs as well as efforts by the College to institutionalize mechanisms to register eligible students as voters.
The college proposes to conduct seminars and workshops to motivate studnets to get register as voters.
